Changing Balancing Segments

GL Gurus,
Question related to 11i version

Can I change the balancing segment qualifier from segment1 to segment7.
If so... what are the important considerations.

How the AP Liability Account, or Receivable Control Account changes the values... does it have any impact on GL - AR reconciliation or GL - AP reconcilaition?
