Automated Project Closure

Hi All, We have a requirement  to automate closure of  projects after they have meet certain pre-defined parameters in Projects.  We have a couple of options: 1) Create a custom workflow that once the parameters are meet, to move the project from Approve to Pending Close and then to Close - only after it has been approved by the PM via the workflow notificatio.  This option is very complex for our needs....or2) Automatically close the projects based the pre-defined parameters without prior approval from the PM if no activity say for one year Was wondering if anyone out there have any other suggestions or if you currently have an automated closure process can you explain how you are doing it.
