Equipment Workorder Nesting

How do I get preventative maintenance work orders on a piece of equipment to be completed when the more in-depth workorder is completed?  For example;  The requirements of a monthly workorder are covered by a quarterly workorder so only the quarterly needs to be generated and completed because the work for the monthly is included in the quarterly.  The same would be true for the quarterly and annual.   I know there is a parent child relationship but I don't know how the schedule is accomplished. Any help would be appreciated.
