Bank Changing Routing Numbers

Has anyone encountered the situation where a bank will change the routing number for an account but not the bank number?  If so, did it cause any problems?  We had an employee whose bank changed the routing number for his account and did not change the bank number.  He was due a producer payment for direct deposit but when the batch was processed Oracle message  "No Supplier Bank" was on the preliminary register.  It may be a timing issue since the change happened about a day prior to payment processing but I thought I would check.
