Using virtual hostname (CNAME) for DB and Apps tier by adcfgclone.pl

I'm trying to configure DB and Apps tiers using virtual hostname (CNAME) by running adcfgclone.pl. It seems working fine. Now I'm considering of switching over to another sets of servers. Will it work if I just simply copy Apps file systems and change the CNAME to point to the secondary servers? What's the supportive way to switchover using CNAME?
