Adding and Deleting Cluster node on Linux servers

Hi,
When we add or deleting nodes in a cluster, can we maintain normal operations on the Oracle RAC databases on the remaining cluster nodes or should we shutdown all databases and ASM instances ?

I see no such information on the Oracle clusterware administration and deployment guide.

We have a 2 nodes Linux cluster with 11.2 GI clusterware and 10.2.0.4 RAC.
