OEM 12c - adding linux target fails with "Agent Clone Failed"

 I'm new to OEM and this is my first attempt at adding a linux host to OEM 12c
I used setup - add target - add target manually - add host target 
i added the hostname and the platform (linux x86-64)

The job ran, it passed all the prerequisites and in the deployment phase it failed with:
