Executing Carryforward Process Mid Year

We did not execute the GL carryforward process for requisitions and purchase orders at the beginning of the year due to audit issues, etc.,  Does anyone know th impact of executing the carryforward process mid-year.  I.e. how are balances impacted?  are there any negative impacts., etc.  I am concerned that we have been liquidating obligations that were not carried forward...so doing the carryforward now may present additional problems.
