what is the difference between logical receipt and physical receipt ?

Hi,
In the case of drop ship orders, we need to do a logical/passive receipt. 
how to do logical receipt/passive receipt, s there a flag to indicate that this is a logical receipt  or does the system automatically does that based on the OM line type (or some underlying tables like oe_drop ship sources etc).
Can someone please clarify on this?
