Can a Debit claim be settled by referring to a Line Type of CREDIT MEMO

Can a debit claim ( DBC claim ) be settled as a Debit memo so that the Debit automatically offsets an Open Credit Memo..

Want to reference Line Type = Credit Memo and Name=<credit number>.....If there is an Open credit memo of $100 and Customer needs tobe debited for $100 , can the credit memo be referenced on the line so that the credit is applied to the debit memo created.
