How to Populate Primary Contact's Phone number on Task Page layout

Hi,
Primary Contact is a Picklist Read only (Look up) field on Task Page Layout.  My requirement is to show the Primary contact phone number on the Task Page Layout. The phone number should appear correctly for all old tasks as well.

I have used 'JoinFieldValue' function but it is working only when a new record is created.

Is it possible to create a field like 'Business Plan: Description' which is available out of the box. 'Business Plan: Description' populates Description of Business Plan on all existing tasks as well. Can we create custom fields like 'Primary Contact: Phone' to achieve this requirement?
