SSO in 11.1.2.x configuration compared to 9.3.0

We are working fast to replace a great 9.3.0 installation...

In Hyperion 9.3.0 we were able to 

1) configure the system to use Remote User from the http header via the Remote User "macro":
2) as part of the setup we have to manually encrypt the common user password via a command-line utility

In reading through the 11.1.2.x Security Admin guide, and, the Users and Roles guide I see:
