Work Order Routing Question - Additional Rounting Operations used for 'rework' within a WIP Work Ord

The scenario we are trying to accomplish is to allow some items to essentially move 'backward' in a routing if rework is required.

For example: Work Order is for Quantity 10 with 7 operations in the Work Order Routing.  At Operation 5, some test is done that indicates that 4 of the 10 items need to return to Operation #2 for 'rework' purposes.

Has anyone done something like this?  What does the Routing need to look like?  I was trying to use an Alternate Routing (Routing Type 'A'), but it looks like that is really only used for routing step 'substitution', and not to 'insert' an additional operation for 'rewok' purposes.    I suppose we could have an additional step after operation 5 for rework, and just complete the operation for the 'un-reworked' items, but that requires some manual management of our work order quantities in WIP (and the users are not all that 'tech-savvy').  Plus we actually have several operations in a routing wher
