Is there any impact to Oracle 11i applications when upgrading the datbase from 10g to 11g

We are in a process of Oracle R12 upgrade from our release of 11i(11.5.10.2).

Based on information we gathered so far from Oracle and other Oracle users that already upgraded to R12 application it was suggected to plan for two phase upgrade approch.

 In phase 1 upgrade your Oracle 11i application database from 10 g to 11g and in phase 2 upgrade your Oracle 11i with 11g datbase to

 Oracle R12.

We are planning to implement our R12 upgrade in two phase:

Phase 1 -  upgrade our 11i application from 10g to 11g database release. This will be around Septemeber time frame.

Phase 2 -  upgrade our 11i application with 11g database to R12.  This will be around late November time frame.
