401k plan change mid-year

Has Anyone had experience in changing  401k vendors mid year?  With the associated payroll history and tax history, I don't see how to use new DBA codes without going through some extreme pain.  Additionally, we have been given less than a month to try to accomplish this. 

There are some programs for converting payroll and tax history but the documentation states that this is specifically for doing data conversions from another system.  I don't see any other way to do this other than to maintain the same DBA codes but am concerned with the subsequent audit issues etc. with the change in vendors.   Any Advice?
