R12 Purge Process Events

I am looking at an upgrade to R12 and see that there is new functionality to purge payroll system events through a concurrent request.  Does anyone have any metrics around how the process has helped system processing time or reduced maintenance costs, and what date parameters that were usedin the scheduled process?
