field validation - Cursor control

I have field validation on a field. The validation is to check the value of a field and make another field required.

The validation works and a pop up error message is shown on save of the record. But unfortunately the cursor goes to the first editable field
in the page.

Would like to take the cursor to the field for which the user failed to key in data.
