converting text from lower case to upper case

Hi Gurus, Is there any option of converting text from lower case to upper case other than using a custom javascript in a webapplet on the action bar.
we would like this option to be available on the edit page, search layouts etc. wherever a user needs to enter a text
I already have a field validation to check if the user is entering only uppercase values.
