Using @LEVMBRS in a Calc Script

My coworker told me that it is dangerous to use the @LEVMBRS function with the accounts dimension because it will affect every level 0 in that dimension.  He said that I should use @RELATIVE instead.  When I look up the 2 functions they don't appear to do exactly the same thing to me.  Is it true that I should be careful using @LEVMBRS?
