Created a New Hire with a wrong date

 Hello, 
We have created a New Hire dated as 01-JAN-2011 instead of 01-JAN-2012. After that we have updated the record with some additional information with effective date as 01-JAN-2012. As the person doesn't exist in our company before 01-JAN-2012, do we need to purge this record and re-create again or can we correct the record so that we don't see his history before 01-JAN-2012?

i appreciate any suggestion on resolving this issue.
