Staging Environment Behaviour

Hi All
I am finding bits a pieces in discussion about the behaviour of the staging environment, but cant find any documentation about its behaviour.  Can anyone direct me to some material.

So far I have found that staging
Refreshes reporting through the ETL weekly (unreliably)
Is refreshed from prod every three months

That's all I can find.  Any help (and I mean any) would be greatly appreciated
