Process Execution Parameters - Document Numbering

In setting up a new manufacturing inventory org on Process Execution Parameters - Document Numbering - Batch Numbering is not allowed to be change to Automatic with message "Field is protected against update".  If Create Batch is accessed a message open stating  ":APP_GMA-80300: Document Number Assignment record not set up."How do I change the Document Numbering - Batch to Automatic?  Is there a certain sequence to create manufacturing inventory Orgs with regards to these parameters?Thanks
