PickList Impl Phase for Asset and Products

Hi All,

The "Status" field of Product and Asset entitiy uses the same picklist: "PickList Impl Phase"
Is there any reason as to why the same picklist is used for these 2 separate entities?
Customer has a requirement NOT to display Asset Satus LOV's in Product Status field
Is there any OOTB functionality or any internal relationship of these 2 entities based on this Status.
As these 2 are very important entities, is it fine if a separate picklist is created and used ?
