cannot publish some reports into Excel

I have been running into an issue in FDM where I can run most reports fine and publish them both in Excel and PDF, however i do have a couple reports that when I try to publish to excel I get an excel error saying "unable to read file" then another error saying Excel found unreadable content in the file.  Is there anything known that would trigger this error?  Because of this error all of the formatting the report has is lost within excel and the report in un-usable.
