Absence Management set up issues

We are trying to setup Absence Management in our QA environment and once I submit a time off request, it is not being sent to the approver.  We are not sure if it is a workflow issue, or if we are missing something in the setup.  I have followed the "Approvals Management Responsibilities and Setups in AME.B" white paper as well as the "Enabling Approvals Managment for Absence Management within Release 12" white paper.  Any input would be very helpful!  Thanks!
