Changing from fiscal year to calendar year

Has anyone ever successfully changed from a fiscal year to a calendar year in Fixed Assets?  There are notes that explain how to change the GL calendar to accomplish the change in GL, but I haven't found any information on how to accomplish the change in Fixed Assets.  We need to know how to deal with the 'short year' and then how to get YTD numbers aligned with the calendar year.
