Download Report to Excel

We have found that when you download reports to excel the formatting on a field is not brought onto the report.  We have Sales Stage reoport that has 3 numeric fields that we are not able to perform calculations on.  The fields are defined as number fields and we are using the default formatting on the report.  With some testing I have found that I can download the report results to a .csv file and then numeric fields can then be summed.  This is an extra step and I would think we should be able to download to Excel and have
