Serial Number Generation for numbers out of sequence

Is there a method to generate a range (or single) predefined serial numbers that were skipped by previous generation requests.   The standard 'Generate Serial Number' request starts from the last serial number generated and we have no way to create the serial numbers that were skipped and are now out of sequence?
