Inventory Value Key Indicator in IO

in Value Chain Planning - EBS (MOSC) Question
  We are launching a completely new suite of Demantra, ASCP and IO. I'm looking at the Inventory Value Key Indicator in IO to try and make some decisions about what service levels to use at launch of the new system. I see that Inventory Values for our plan (with real data in a test environment refreshed 1.5 months ago) increase drastically over a 6 month horizon. Over the 6 months, the Inventory Value Key Indicator increases 6x. 
Trying to figure out a rational business explanation for this, but I'm struggling... Any ideas are appreciated.
