Why would the periods between portions of an email address not hold upon entry

Hi, We are using Receivables for Oracle EBS 11.5.10.  The remit to address for transactions has a address portion that contains the email address.  I foudn that this address resides in the HZ_LOCATIONS table and the email is in the column 'ADDRESS3'.   When this was entered in the test regions system admin had to re-enter it a second time so that the periods would remain.  So upon entry in our PROD region, the periods did not remain even though they did enter the values again. 

Does anyone have an idea as to why this would be the case?  Thanks.
