Date issue on tax books

I am doing a comparison of the assets on the corporate books versus my federal tax book.  I noticed that I have  assets with a date placed in service with a date placed in service on January 7, 2012 that went to the prior fiscal year on the tax books 2011.  Our tax calendar is a standard monthly calendar, so my expectation would have for it to go to the first month of the year.  Can anyone give me guidance as to why this would be?
