Extending company segment value

Hi,


I have a requirement  to extend the value of  company segment since it is maxed out. (01- 99 already used) .So need to change from 2 digit to 3 Digit.

I have two options

1- Change the value set to 3 digit and also change value existing values. Means  01 /99 to 001/099 and create new from 100. This will need back-end updates and  too complicated.

2  Change the value set to 3 digit and keep the current 02/99 as it is  and enter new values starting from 100.

Is it advisable to change the existing value set 3 digit and keep the existing 2 digit as it is even though the value max value changed in the value set from 2 digit to 3 digit.
