Purge Designator (MRCPRG)

What exactly is the purpose of the Purge Designator (MRCPRG) job?

We currently run that job right before we load a new Forecast into the application. But nobody here is sure why we run it.

It looks as though (according to the log file) the job deletes records from several forecasting tables. Which means that we lose any historical data when we load a new Forecast. Is that correct?

It looks like the job is also doing one more thing. The first log message says:

"Updated mrp_plans"

What exactly is that?
