customization of package ruuning behind progress order in sales order

Hi,

We r using configuration without order management.

In OM ,in sales order form,after configuring the item and booking the order,we click the action button,in which we select progress order.

In that process it generates one star item number in order lines,and save it in inventory and bom.

the same thing we want in configuration.

i want to know which package is generating that number and storing it in inventory and bom.

and what are the parameters for that.

Please help me out of this issue,waiting for replies.
