Update rebuild asset number

Hi All,

Need your help with the following:

The rebuildable items get their serial number at receipt for example MOTOR001. – NOT predefined.

The rebuild asset number will get automatically a different number for example 39004.

The customer would like to have both numbers to be the same, meaning the rebuild asset number should be as the number it got in the receiving stage(MOTOR001).

What is the best way to accomplish that without manually update the number in the rebuild serial number form.
