ONS down - 11g R2 Linux X64

Hi

On our production 2 node RAC 11g R2 Linux X64, all of a sudden ONS daemon is down

ora.proddb1.ons                            ONLINE     OFFLINE
ora.proddb2.ons                            ONLINE     OFFLINE
ora.ons                                           ONLINE     OFFLINE

Everything else is up but just the ONS

we tried this but it failed

onsctl start
Please configure localport and remoteport directives and attempt to start ONS server again.

Can someone pleae guide us on how to troubleshoot this and start it back up?
