HP Data protector retention versus RMAN retention

Hi,

We use HP Data Protector as Media Management layer. We schedule the backups in Data Protector but I plan to use rman as such (without using the DP GUI) for restore operations.

Now I have a question on the retention period. In rman I have set it to 7 days.

In DP we have 4 schedules per database:

Daily -> kept for 31 days

Weekly  -> kept for a year

Half Yearly -> kept for 10 years.

This is needed for compliancy reasons (pharmaceutical company).

I'm pretty sure that the backups will not get deleted after they become obsolete for RMAN since they are stored on tape in a safe.
