Copying costs across inventory organizations

we follow standard costing and we have around 40 Inventory orgs and items around one million.  The costs are updated at least once a year and or more frequently depending on business needs.  This process across all orgs is taking substantial time.

Is there any option/solution - can costs be maintained only in one inventory org say master org, and be referenced by other orgs for costing transactions.

I am assuming many members have this type of scenarios of numerous inventory orgs and high number of inventory items.  Any other unique work arounds/solutions are also welcome.
