Work Order Relationships and dependency

Does anyone have any set-up documentation on how to properly set-up Work Order Relationships with Dependencies?  I am trying to model a scenario where a Parent work order spawns a child work order, I can not complete the Parent until the Child is complete.  And another scenario where a Parent Work order spawns several child work orders but I can complete the Parent even though the child is open.  Any guidance, suggestions are greatly appreciated.
