LDAP Authentication to Activie Directory

Not new to Solaris, but new to Active Directory Authentication.

Would like to consolidate our password policy using Microsoft AD.  Read may web articles on many different possibilities and now my mind is clouded.

All we need to be able to do is authenticate our Solaris users to Active Directory.  We do not want to control the computers in AD at all.

Does the Solaris host need to be a member of the AD Domain to accomplish this?  Our AD administrators are saying no.

What is the best way to accomplish this task?

Solaris 10 on both Intel and Sparc.
