Can not update the Invoice Distribution Descriptive Flexfield after the Invoice has been cancelled

We have a need to update the invoice distribution descriptive flexfield after an invoice is cancelled.  Currently, Oracle is not allowing us to do this.  Is this standard functionality? Is there anywhere that we can change this or is this a customization?
