Recovery using cold backup.

Hi Experts

I am quite confused about recovering from cold backup. Suppose we have a one week old cold backup. Now suddenly my instance crashed.  

What are the steps that are to be followed if the control file was also backed up? Will it be a complete recovery if we have all the archives available  till the point when the database crash?

What are the steps that are to be followed if we have to create a new crontrol file? Will we able to completely recover a database?
