How Transportation Calendars works? -- Shipping & Manfacturing Perspective

Hi Gurus,

I would like to understand how various transportation calendars works in SCM (like Inventory, Receiving, purchasing, OM, Manfacturing (WIP), Shipping Execution, Carrier).

Is that mandatory to create all transportation calenders (Shipping, Receiving, Carrier).

Any information on this would be appreciated.
