Simulation Cost Roll Up Troubleshooting Tip
When encountering a situation where the top level item cost is not the expected simulated total cost, and if this parent item is made up of several subassemblies, the best way to identify where the rollup fails to calculate the correct simulated cost, is to simulate one subassembly at a time. Start with the lowest level subassembly first, and work your way up the bill of material by changing the subassembly item number in the P30820 data selection. Also, select the processing option to recalculate labor and overhead.
This exercise will accumulate costs every time that the simulation program P30820 is run and if at some point the result is not the expected for that subassembly, then you can start researching the subassembly in question.
