Asset retirement in the period in which they are created

Dear all

We are migrating assets from legacy system to Oracle Assets as on 01-Dec-2011 with YTD Depreciation and Accumulated Depreciation where DEC-11 is the current open period

Some of the assets that we imported into Oracle were retired in legacy system in Dec-11

When we try retiring the asset in Dec-11, the system gives a message stating that assets cannot be retired in the period they were added

Is there any workaround for this. Your inputs/suggestions would be greatly appreciated
