Primary DB/PHysical Standby DB separate-decouple

Hello.  We have several environments comprised of Primary DB and a corresponding physical standby database.  We've performed several tests where we switchover the roles where the physical standby DB beomes the primary and vice versa where primary DB becomes the physical standby DB.

Is there the concept where we can separate/de-couple the primary DB and corresponding physical standby DB whereby they become sepate unique primary DBs and no longer configured as a primary DB and physical standby DB?  Idea is what is currently the physical standby DB becomes a open unique DB moving forward and the what used to be the primary DB continues on as an open DB?  Thanks for your help.
