Removal of files in $APPLCSF/out that are generated by BI Publisher (in EBS 11.5.10.2)

We have found that even though we run the Purge Concurrent Manager Requests job that files related to the generation of output by BI Publisher are not removed for the dates we specify.  Typically we see PDF and EXCEL files on the files sytem in addition to the XML files that are used by the Output Post Processor to generate the desired PDF or EXCEL file.

Do we have to manually via scripts remove these files or are we doing something wrong in our BI publisher administration (is three a way to generate the PDF for printing without actually saving it to the file system?)
