Second database with the same SID in the network

I am given a project to upgrade a host server(Win2003 Server R2) on a vendor based system, which is currently using Oracle 9 database.

One of the requirement to me is that I am going to create or migrate the orginal Oracle database, say in Host A(Win2003 Server), to  new host, say, Host B(Wind2008 Server R2).  Both hosts reside on the same network.

Now, my question is, can they both exist at the same time?  It is my undestanding that as long as the host names are different, I could use a same database name/SID/ ServiceName  on both hosts.  Both databases will need to be up together for some time.  Is my understanding correct ?  The database version on Host A is 9, and Host B will be 11g.

Howdy, Stranger!
