OS are different between APPS and DB tier, which OS I should use to download the patch

VPC Team Memver opened the thread for the customer
1. If we have EBS apps tier on RHEL4.0 32 bit, but DB tier in RHEL5.0 64 bit, when I need to download a patch, which OS I  should be chosen when downloading the patch? 

2. In split configure, do I apply the patch in apps tier only?
