JRE 64 bit on DB tier during upgrade

 One of the steps during the upgrade from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.1 is to upgrade JRE under <ORACLE_HOME>/appsutil/jre . I'm following section 4 of the Doc  455492.1  as per the upgrade guide. Now, both my apps and DB tier are 64-bit. can we install 64-bit JRE instead of 32-bit JRE on the DB tier? I know we have to install 32-bit on the apps tier , unless the default client browser is 64-bit. Any suggestions?
